an adventure in Dubai...

I can’t believe I forgot to share about the day that the kids and I spent in Dubai. Of course, a lot has happened since then, so I was a little preoccupied. On our trip to Uganda back in June, we landed in Dubai just before noon and we weren’t flying out until the next morning. When your layover is more than eight hours, the airline provides your hotel for the night. With that much time available, I had to schedule something fun that would allow us to see this place we had never been. We chose a desert safari! We were a little bummed to do something so fun without Floyd, but he agreed that we couldn’t miss the opportunity.
They picked us up at our hotel and the adventure began. After a drive through the city, they stop to deflate the tires and you head into the desert. It’s a lot like going mudding, but you’re in the sand dunes. We didn’t pay the extra for a private vehicle because I just didn’t think it about. We had an older gentleman and his young adult grandson from Australia in the car with us. Unfortunately, this man did not make it half-way through the dunes before he was vomiting. Fortunately, they did provide puke bags in the car. After the second time, we pulled off to wait for the emergency vehicle and our co-passengers left in that car.

After the 4-wheeling, we stopped on a high point in the sand dunes and watched the sunset. Our driver used my phone to snap some photos of us. Obviously he does this a lot because he took some great photos!

Finally, we drove a little further to a desert camp where we stayed for a few hours. We had a full buffet of local dishes, henna tattoos, camel rides, and a few other things. Just before time to go, they turned out all the lights as we all laid on the carpets and stared up at the stars.

After all that, they drove us back to the hotel and we crashed. We are all so grateful for such a great opportunity! If you ever find yourself with a day in United Arab Emirates, look up Arabian Adventures.
