a Christmas gift with an extra purpose

As you probably know, we've been to Uganda several times, so we have our fair share of keepsakes. One of my favorites has always been the unique jewelry items that I have, especially the ones made from paper beads. I just love how something so simple can look so beautiful.
This past summer we even had the opportunity to make some. Tyler's class at the primary school was learning to make them during class and we were able to join in the lesson. It was more difficulty than I ever considered because you can't just roll the paper. You have to be careful to roll it in a way that creates a beautiful bead. They have to be symmetric.

Here's a sample of the beads made in class.

These purple beads are all made by hand out of paper!

So, why am I going on about beads made out of paper? Because you have an opportunity to get some for yourself and/or to give as gifts. Last month a friend of ours gave us a generous gift. She has been to Uganda twice and had a great idea. She bought many of the strands of beads in Uganda. When she got home to the US, she sent them off to her sister who is a jewelry artist. Her sister then added silver clasps, made matching sets (necklace, earring, and bracelet), and added a little something extra to each one. This process took her sister many months. Now, she has given us all of the sets, in hopes that we can sell them to raise money for our ministry in Uganda. The entire selling price will go towards building the house in Uganda.
We have taken pictures of them and posted an album on Facebook. If you are not on Facebook and would like to see all of the available beads, just message me or comment on this post so I can provide that for you. We also have some bracelets and necklaces that were made by a group of 5 single moms in Kampala, Uganda. For any of those sold, a portion will go back to the ladies that made them and the remaining portion will be put towards building the house in Uganda.
Here are a few pics, but I assure you, every piece is very unique. If you are particularly drawn to one of these, but want to see the others, just let me know. The pictures don't quite do them justice anyway. :)
