Thankful for a great training and visit in Arkansas

Last week we went to Fayetteville, Arkansas for a training called SRS Bootcamp. This bootcamp was recommended to us by a handful of friends and acquaintances who are global workers. We were doubly blessed when we learned that the next available training was in Fayetteville, as we were already trying to determine a time when we could visit Floyd's aunt who lives in the area. We were able to stay at her home and, while we were at our training for 2 days, the kids stayed with her. In the evenings we were able to catch up and spend time together.

The purpose of the bootcamp was to learn about all the ins and outs of being a global worker that lives on support. We had already completed several Bible studies that talk about the Biblical basis for asking for, living on, and giving support. At the training we went into a bit more detail in these areas. We also learned about ways to communicate and encourage the folks who comprise our support team. As we truly believe that the members of our support team really are our partners on this journey, we greatly appreciated the insights that the leaders were able to share. We had to complete a significant number of hours of preparation homework before the training, but it was worth it.

In addition to the training itself, we were able to meet many other global workers who are preparing for a mission field or already in it. It was so encouraging to hear their stories, share in the process, and glean from the experiences of others. On a side note, at each table there were 6 participants and 1 observer. We arrived early, so we got to pick our favorite spot-right up front. A young single lady had come in shortly behind us and I was standing in the lobby waiting for Floyd, so she and I started up a conversation. We sat next to each other and it was such a blessing to get to know her. We are now Facebook friends and I look forward to hearing more about her journey. The very last person that came to our table was a gentleman named Kevin. A bit later in the conversations, I learned that Kevin was from Ft. Worth. We went through the normal conversation where you get more details about where someone's from if you're familiar with the area. Come to find out, Kevin graduated from the same high school as I my freshman year. Sometimes it really does feel like a small world. :)

To sum up, we are grateful for the lessons, the new friends, the safe travels (we were worried about driving through the Ozarks covered in ice), the time with family, and the encouragement that we received.
