all you can do is laugh (or at least smile)

I posted a brief comment on Facebook about our long wait for dinner tonight. Well, the funny thing is that it is the norm here to wait for whatever food you order. It is a bit of the norm everywhere because the food is cooked fresh, from scratch. Often times, the chicken is literally slaughtered after you order it. So, we expect a long wait. However, the place we're staying has a particularly long wait. It is common for food to come 1-1.5 hours after your requested it, even if you ordered it super early.

For example, at dinner, we order breakfast for the next day. You might request that it be ready at 8, but not get it until 8:30 or 9. Then after breakfast, you order dinner and ask for it to be ready by 6:30. You might get it on time, or you might get it at 7 or 7:30. There is just no certainty and you get used to it.

Today we had not ordered dinner ahead, so at 4:30 we ordered and told them we'd like to eat as soon as it is ready. As I mentioned on FB, at 7:30 we were still waiting. We had purposely not ordered any chicken or anything that would take long to cook.

When Floyd went to inquire about the delay, we learned that they had prepared the first meal and then realized they were out of an ingredient. They sent a boda to get the missing ingredient (a boda is a motorcycle driver or courier). It had taken him nearly 2 hours to make the errand.

So, about 7:45 we had our food. Unfortunately, as soon as Floyd took a bite, he learned that his was the meal prepared when we originally requested it. They had cooked it and then let it sit the entire time until the others were ready, nearly 3 hours later. It wasn't so pleasant.

Then, as Raegan was taking her first bite, Tyler had a minor accident. He bumped his drink with the back of his hand and it went straight into Raegan's plate. Everything was soaked in an instant. She tried her best to muster up and eat it anyway, but it tasted awful with the extra ingredient.

Fortunately, Troy and I were able to share with Floyd and Raegan so that none of us are going to bed hungry.

In times like these, the only thing to do is laugh. There is no sense in getting frustrated or upset about the delayed food, or the spilled drink, or anything else. So, laugh, or at least smile. :)
