update on the house

Hey everyone!!! You may have noticed on Facebook that we're still in a hotel. The house just isn't at a point where we can stay in it yet, but we're hoping it will be by next week. We do have some photos for you. First let me clarify one thing. Here in Uganda, hiring a carpenter is less expensive than trying to by pre-manufactured cabinets. Hiring a welder to make something is less expensive than trying to find what you need or ordering it from somewhere (like a crank poll for the well or a cage for the generator). Basically, employing a skilled craftsman is the normal thing to do for most of your needs. Fortunately, it also enables you to support the local craftsmen. So, when you see the pictures don't think we went all fancy. The craftsmen just do beautiful work. :)
Also, I'll post pictures of the house on Wednesday and again from today, Saturday, so that you can see how quickly they are working to get it ready for us to move in.

One of the surprises that comes from having craftsmen build something is that they put amazing detail that we would never have imagined into the work. The ceiling in the picture above is one sample, and here are a few more.

When Floyd and I were here in September, we were looking for a dining table but they were all very fancy and fairly expensive. Also, they either sat 4 people or were really big! We showed a picture of a basic table that we liked to the carpenter that was doing our doors, cabinets, etc. He said he could do it and gave us a good quote, so we hired him to make it. He brought it to the house with all the other wood stuff today. We forgot to get a picture of the chairs, but they're just as beautiful as everything else! Here's the table:
It is bigger than it looks in this pic. :)

And for those that are curious, here's a few pics of the school:
The entrance to one of the classrooms.

The almost completed wing on the left and the middle wing underway on the right.
And finally, a picture of one baby Eucalyptus tree. :)

Pray for continued progress so that we can move in and the school can open on time.
