Our first Easter at Wells of Joy

We got to celebrate Easter with our boarding students and several teachers because they were not able to go home for the holiday weekend. Fortunately, the Lord provided. Our Head Mistress thought ahead and asked parents to chip in a small amount for each child so that we could put together the usual Ugandan feast for Easter. We were glad to be able to chip in as well. It turned out wonderfully. Here are some pics to help you see how we celebrated.
On Saturday we went to the butcher to get meat, a rare treat for most. He was very busy, so much that he had to extend a hanging post in front of his neighbors place. Fortunately, we have an in with him - his two children, Susan and Enoch, are boarding students at our school. We had let him know ahead of time how much we needed and he was prepared for us. He also saved us some expense by giving a couple pounds at no charge.
After fighting the rain so many times, the men built this covered kitchen for the cook (at least it's mostly covered).

It came in very handy because we cooked for hours. We only had a few sprinkles, but the cover also gave some shade from the bright sun. I got a pretty good sunburn anyway, Also, the pics aren't blurry, that is the heat waves you see in the photos. :)
While we finished cooking, the kids set up tables and then we made a serving line.
They started on the right side of the room and the kids were so glad to have so much variety.

This side of the room was waiting so patiently for their turn to fill their plates. :)
Here's a sample: rice, macrons (spaghetti noodles), matoke, dodo (similar to greens), potatoes, beans, and beef,
After the meal, we celebrated with some praise songs and a message about what we're celebrating on Easter. Here are a couple of short videos that you might enjoy!

This first video is in English. It's one of my faves! The words are in the YouTube description.

This second video is in Luganda. This is also one of my faves. A description and translation are on the YouTube page.
