Wells of Joy...you must dig water wells or something like that.?
Actually, we have a well on our property, more than one in fact; but, no, we don't have anything to do with wells.
So where did the name come from???
Choosing a name for a ministry is not as simple as you would think. Not only does everyone have to agree on one name, but, once you agree, you have to make sure that name is not taken by another ministry or too close to another name. Again, not as simple as you would think.
After a lot of brain storming, I admit that Wells of Joy wasn't the first choice because of the concern that folks would think we dig wells or something like that. The name was suggested by one of the Ugandans on the board and it seemed out of place to many of us, but once you hear the explanation, you might fall in love with it like I did.
Isaiah 12:3 says, "with joy you shall draw water from the wells of salvation." That verse was the inspiration for the name, but it still doesn't clear it up.
So, here's the deal. If you live in a place like Uganda, having a well near by is a huge blessing. People come to the well for so many reasons: to give their livestock a drink, to water their crops, to cook their food, to wash their clothes, to clean their living space, and so on and so on. No matter what your specific reason is, the water will meet your need.
In the same way, we all come to Jesus for different reasons. No matter your age or situation in life, every believer found themselves at a point where they called out to Christ. As we continue our walk with the Lord, there will be many times that we cry out again. Whether it's a dying loved one, a sudden emergency, a broken heart, gratitude for a gift or blessing, interceding for someone we know, and so on and so on. Whatever leads you to cry out to Jesus, he will meet your need. He is the Living Water, and just like physical water meets so many needs, He also meets various needs.
If you're in America, you may not think much about turning on your water faucet, but imagine if you had no faucet to reach for...how different would life be. Living in Uganda or any place that still relies on a well gives you a new perspective of what Jesus meant when he was talking to the "woman at the well."
So, read it again, "with joy you shall draw water from the wells of salvation." Think about it. The Living Water gives us life and he gives us joy. No matter your need, cry out to him. You will be filled and you will find joy.
And, so, we are Wells of Joy Victory Ministries Uganda. The goal of our ministry is to meet various needs, starting with a primary school, but not ending there. And through every physical need that God allows us to meet, we also hope to lead people to the Living Water so that they are overflowing with joy no matter what circumstances surround them.
