School is in session!

It seems that so much has been going on. Every day lasts much longer than it should, or at least it feels like it. After all the preparation, school finally started on Monday. Unfortunately, Ugandans are still nervous about the corrupt elections and what will happen next, so they have delayed in sending their kids back to school. The news reports that schools all over the country reported very low turn out for the start of the new year.

We were expecting nearly 100 students, but after the first week, we still have barely 50. Surprisingly, of the ones that are here, I'd say a good 30-40% are children that we weren't expecting but have come to join our school. We have heard from some of our parents that they'll be bringing their kids next Monday.

Even though the numbers are low, we're still making the best of it.
We're using one of the extra classrooms as an office. We're glad to have Madame Flavia, the Bursar, back with us this year.
Primary One started out with just a few students. We'd like to welcome one of our new teachers, Madame Eron.

Nakyaze Loy was the only student in Primary 2 on the first day. She was glad to have some classmates on the second day. Somehow I didn't manage to get a photo of Madame Syria, whom we're glad to have back this year!
We'd also like to welcome Madame Evelyn, the Primary 3 teacher, teaching Math and Science.

The new teacher's desks and book shelf for each classroom is such a blessing to our staff. Thankfully, Madame Grace is still with us!

Kivumbi Enock was the only student in Primary 5 the first day, but that didn't stop him from getting to work.
Madame Olivia will still be teaching Social Studies and serving as the Head Mistress (principle).
Master Shawn is also a blessing as our new Primary 5 teacher, also teaching Math and Science. He has a lot of experience and a passion for sports, so he's hoping to get our sports program going.
Saul and Prossy are the only students in Primary 6 the first day. They are also siblings. Unfortunately, they don't look too excited. :)
Primary One really picked up quickly!
The new conference table and staff room is a huge blessing to all of us and it even served as a testing room to interview our new students (the interview is really an exam to determine the proper class for each child). :)
The new see-saws are the hit of the year!

Of course, everyone loves a game of football (soccer)!
Our first Bible study of the year was small, but that's okay. We are learning that God uses little things in mighty ways. Like how he used a small boy named David and a little pebble to defeat a giant named Goliath.

We also had our first Fellowship Friday for the new year. It was great to worship together in Luganda and English. We learned what it means to say that God is Holy and how his ways are the opposite of the world. The king is the servant. The rich possess nothing. To give is to receive. We also talked about Valley Vision - when you're standing in a valley, there is nothing to look at. Every side is blocked by the mountains. The only place is to look up. When we look up, we're looking to the Lord. We are focused on Him and hearing His word. So, let us pray daily for Valley Vision (this is from a Puritan Prayer).
