Swimming, great food, and baby monkeys!!

I can't believe it's nearly been a month and I haven't told you about the amazing little time away that the Lord blessed us with back in May. The kids went home for the holiday break on May 14th and we had decided to take a few days away from the property. When we're here, we're "on call" all the time. We had decided to back to the Nile River Camp in Jinja. They have bunk style guest rooms that are really inexpensive. Although you don't have power in the room and you have to walk to the community bath and shower house, the atmosphere, food, and view are amazing. I emailed to schedule the room a few weeks early.

Just a few days before we were scheduled to go, we got a phone call. They booked a school with 60 kids coming to the camp during the same time that we were there. They knew it would be loud and crazy, so they asked if we would mind staying at their sister property, Nile River Porch, in a family house. This was a huge upgrade! Of course, the boys made me confirm that they could still hike down to the rope swing into the Nile River. The man said that we could use the facilities at either location, they just thought we'd be more comfortable and peaceful at the Porch.

Here's the crazy thing: we would be charged the same price as the bunk room, but we'd be staying in a 2 bedroom house with a beautiful front porch overlooking the pool and the Nile River. We were staying for 3 nights for less than the cost of 1 night. Believe me, we could not afford to stay in this family house where the usual rate is $210 a night.

It was a great time of rest, relaxation, and renewal!! Here are some pics:

Here is the view from the restaurant porch.
Tyler enjoyed sitting on the ledge, although it made me a little nervous becuase it is a steep drop down to the river. :)

This is the family house I told you about.

Of course, I wanted some shots of everyone.

But, if you tell the boys you want a photo, this is what you get:
So, you have to snap when Troy's not looking:
Or guilt him into taking a nice photo just once:

Remember, I mentioned monkeys, I wasn't referring to Troy and Tyler:
This little guy was trying to get around by himself.

The first two photos are not zoomed in. They really
were this close. This last one is zoomed in so you
can see the tiny baby that the mother is carrying.
That one was not getting around on its own,
although it tried.

On the left, look at the top of the photo and at the
one that is obvious. There were a lot of them.

We had a great 3 days of swimming, sitting on the porch, Raegan and I reading, using the rope swing into the Nile, and we even ate ice cream. We actually ate a lot of ice cream because it is rare to find good ice cream in Uganda. :) For me, it was also fun to try different foods on the restaurant menu as I like variety and trying new things. For everyone else, they found what they liked and enjoyed it. The Black Lantern has great food!
