our new home (part 2)

After getting the house cleaned, we had to acquire some furniture. We had hoped to find a furnished house, but it turns out that most furnished places are apartments and they're more expensive than houses. Also, we were looking to be in a community.

We didn't really have a furniture budget (other than a little set aside for random things that we might need), but fortunately, we were able to find things at local places, so the prices were not very high (nothing like what we'd expect in the US).

Because of Floyd's back situation, and just being practical, beds were the first thing on the list. It was Chinese New Year, but we found one mattress shop open. Would you believe they were literally the only shop open that day AND the young lady spoke English! The Lord made a way for us!
Getting them home was easier than we expected as well!

We went from place to place searching for everything and it worked out. We found all the big stuff in 2 days and scheduled for a lot of it to be delivered last Tuesday, which worked out great! These little deliveries showed up throughout the day.

Come on inside and I'll show you around.
The kitchen, dining, and living room is all on the first floor.
A dining table one of the hardest things to find, but we lucked out. It's actually two small tables that we put next to each other. And, of course we brought our table runner made by our old life group before we moved to Uganda.

Supposedly this extra room is the "housekeeper's room". We didn't need that but we're excited to make it a pantry. I got those big wooden cube shelves for $80 brand new!

It's a very open kitchen.

This is the living room looking from the entry of the house. We love our new furniture that is a mix of wood and rattan (a local favorite). The two green chairs and the flat piece against the brick wall came with the house.

Now looking from the corner out. You can see the purple cushions (that was a surprise because we thought the color would be more of a dark red).
On the second floor is our bedroom and we made the extra room into a little office space to use our computers and stuff.
We found these armoires for all the bedrooms (closets are not a thing here).

These curtains have the red stitching, which worked out perfectly in our room. We LOVE the quilt my mom made for us. (She has made one for each of us over the years, so they are the only blankets we own.)

This fancy looking office furniture was actually so inexpensive! We couldn't believe it and it came with the extra pieces in the background (2 3-drawer cabinets and 2 side shelf units, one is holding the tv in the next pic).
This little space is at the top of the stairs on the 2nd floor. The couch came with the house and we put a tv here for the boys to play their video games, my workout videos, and family movies. (We got a great deal on the tv because of the Chinese New Year holiday. Otherwise, we would have had to wait!)

At the top of the 3rd floor, you land on this open space. We were going to have both boys do school work here, but it ended up being just Tyler.

Troy wanted his desk in the bedroom (Tyler's room is too small to even have that choice).

This house is a little unusual because it actually has 3 bedrooms on the top floor (normally there would be only one door right here). Two of them are smaller, but that's fine. One is Tyler's and we'll have a place for Raegan or anyone else to stay when they visit.
So, that's it. This is our new home. The stairs are a good workout, but I'm told after a year or so we'll be able to go up without huffing and puffing. :)
