a funny meeting...

I've been meaning to share a certain story since our first week here in Cambodia. Usually, if I don't share something pretty quickly, I just move on because there are too many things to share, but this one is too good to miss!

On our second day here, we were moving throughout the city viewing places for rent. I think we saw somewhere between 12 and 15 places that first day. Each time, we'd pull up in a tuktuk, wait for the landlord to come unlock the door, and then walk through the place to see what unique features it might have. It is helpful to remind you that most places are made like a duplex where the sides are separated by a concrete wall/fence.

One time, we pulled up to a place and Floyd was heading inside. At that exact moment, the man living next door popped his head above the wall and said hi to Floyd. He was a westerner and they started conversing. His name is John. We quickly realized they are from North Texas. In fact, we discovered that before they moved to Cambodia, they lived only 10 minutes away from my parents north of Fort Worth!

In the late afternoon, we decided to go back to visit the same place because it was one of our top choices. This time, it happened that his wife, Ashley, had just gotten home from work and he introduced us to her. We exchanged contact info and then went our separate ways.

We did not rent that house, but rented one on the next street over. So many times when a random question came in our mind, Floyd would call John and he would so graciously answer our questions. We left the hotel and moved into our house the next Sunday. Ashley, who has a big SUV, messaged me and said, "let me know what time works for you and we'll go to the supermarket." She was so flexible because my schedule kept getting adjusted, but finally we made it. In fact, we went for pizza and then went to the supermarket.

She had one little cart with everything she needed and we had 5 carts full! We packed her SUV to its limit!

The next weekend, they asked if we wanted to go see a movie. We had spent the entire week organizing and shopping, so a movie sounded great. We also knew it would be a great break for the boys. So, we all went together to see Black Panther.

Since our meeting in February, they have become such great friends of ours. We have celebrated their son's birthday, had family pizza night, grilled burgers and brats, and even celebrated Easter together. Ashley and I have gone out for a girl's day and Floyd and John have had some guy time at the movies or just chilling on our patio. The boys also find random things to do and play games. We also have been attending their church, so the boys love going out to eat together after service for our once a week eating out. Church is in the evening, so usually it's a relaxing dinner out and then home to get ready for the week.
