language training fun...

I am really enjoying language training. In fact, some day when I grow up, I'd love to be a linguist. Or at least to study linguistics. I really enjoy school in general, but we've been really blessed with all of language classes so far.
In our kick-start class, which was just a few weeks long, we met several people and had a great time getting the survival skills in our new language (directions, going to the store, finding places, etc.). At the end of the class, we all went out for dinner and our teachers even came along and brought their spouses.

Now, in my current class we have 5 ladies and 1 man. The group study sessions are a great time of fellowship and practicing our vocab. When the servers get involved, it's really great practice.

For the Khmer New Year, the school had a time of fun and games last Friday. We learned several of the traditional games, many of which include someone getting hit, particularly the members of the losing team. They mean business, but it's all in good fun.
The first game involved throwing these small objects at targets on the opposite side.
The winning team then took two pieces and hit the losing team members on the knee. The goal is to hit hard enough that the two pieces make a knocking sound when the knee is struck. They went easy on us, so I didn't get hit very hard. :)

This was another game, called 3-1, that involves chasing people around a circle. It's lots of fun, but too much to try to explain in a blog.
This is my class with our two primary teachers.

This was out attempt at a crazy picture. Although it's blurry, I have to share it because it shows our crazy nature. Our class is always full of laughter!

Last night we went to dinner with a mash up of families that are all going to language training. Only one husband and wife are in class together, but the rest of us are in a weird mix of spouses in various classes that have part of one couple and so on. It's a little hard to explain. So, here's a little picture diagram that makes it clear. :)
There's even a great story as to why we have this picture with none of us looking up. Floyd and I got home from dinner and we're just relaxin' at the house. We got a message saying, "you had Brooklyn's for dinner..." It seemed odd, but Floyd replied that we did. Then our friend said, "you're famous" and attached a screen shot. The restaurant had taken the photo and posted it on their Facebook page. They were reminding everyone that they were open over this holiday weekend and thanking folks for coming out. Our friend happened to be on Facebook and saw the photo of us. LOL!
