School has finally started!

Getting ready for the 2018-19 school year was a long and ever-changing process. We were originally supposed to move into our new building in August, but there were delays in construction for various reasons. At one point, I think construction was completely halted for an entire month. The Lord provided an empty building that we could rent for additional space and the work began to turn this little warehouse into 8 classrooms and an office.
The work happened so fast and turned out great! We were able to start the school year only 1 month behind schedule. We are spread out over 5 buildings, but we everyone we didn't have to send anyone away, so we're grateful! Here are some random photos with captions.
This is the roof above the hallway in the rented building. The classrooms have ceilings built in to look nice and keep in the cool air.

They even helped paint the buildings. Coming from the west, it's hard to imagine working in the midst of construction or the teachers helping with the building work to get ready. It was great to see them do it with great attitudes and eager spirits.
You had to remind yourself not to touch the walls as you went up stairs because the paint was wet.

In October, we had a big celebration to praise the Lord for all he has done. The teacher's set up around the room to share about all the exciting things going on in their classes. These pics are of my team.

6th Grade (including our floating substitute)

Here's a short video recap of the event. It's well worth the 1 minute to watch.

In the weeks after the ceremony, the teachers were excited to get ready for school.

Decorating the classrooms is a lot of work, but the teachers are so creative! They do a great job and have a lot of fun!

Now, they also have to get trained in helping the children with some of the hygiene and other needs based on the living environment. Here they're practicing giving a fluoride treatment to each other because they have to do this in each classroom a few times a year. :)

Now school is underway!
This is a group of teachers walking to lunch one day. I couldn't' resist snapping the photo of their camaraderie!
Can you imagine schools in America having everyone take their shoes off outside the classroom?

This teacher was squatting down while writing so that kids could see the board. She was squatted down for more than 5 minutes. I could definitely not last that long!
This past week we had staff pictures. This is just a few of the ladies that I get to work with. They bring me so much joy!

I also got to participate in some home visits with my Special Education team. It was my first time to drive very far with a passenger and we made it with no problems. :)

I surprised the ladies by having our debriefing meeting at a local coffee shop not too much further up the main road.
