Making Soap - Creative Field Trip #1

As the school year got closer to ending, we had a few grade levels that were still supposed to have a field trip but some of our options for previous years had closed or raised their price beyond our budget. Fortunately, our team is very resourceful and we were able to give the children great experiences. For 5th grade, we learned how to make dish soap.

In the past, the Elementary School Principal, Sinath, made soap as a way of supporting himself. He developed quite the business with a decent amount of regular customers. He has been an educator for quite some time now, but he still remembers how to make soap. He offered the idea of teaching the kids and letting them each take home a bottle of soap. We just had to buy the supplies and we saved plastic water bottles to fill for the kids to take home.

First, Sinath gave the instruction in our training classroom. He explained to the kids how the process works and all the various supplies. After the theory portion of the lesson, we went up to the roof top activity area and got the hands-on lesson. Remember, we don't take pics of the kids, so these are just pictures of me and a few other staff. :)

It took a lot of stirring but we made a lot of soap!
